Estimated Tax Payment Deadlines
For estimated tax purposes, the year is divided into four payment periods, each with a specific due date. It's essential to pay enough tax by these deadlines. If you fail to do so, you could face penalties—even if you're entitled to a refund when filing your tax return at the end of the year.
How to Ensure Timely Payments
- Mailed Payments: The IRS considers your payment on time if the U.S. postmark date is on or before the due date.
- IRS Direct Pay: Make payments online until 8 p.m. Eastern Time on the due date. Learn more about IRS Direct Pay.
- Credit or Debit Card: You can make payments via credit or debit card until midnight on the due date. Learn more about this option here.
