IRS Addresses Filing Challenges for Farmers and Fishermen

The IRS is aware of a third-party software issue affecting qualifying farmers and fishermen attempting to electronically file Form 7203.

Due to these challenges, the Treasury Department and the IRS have issued Notice 2022-33 (PDF), providing penalty relief. Farmers and fishermen who electronically file their 2021 tax return and pay any tax due in full by the following dates will qualify for relief:

  • April 18, 2022, for most taxpayers.
  • April 19, 2022, for those residing in Maine or Massachusetts.

Farmers and fishermen who met the original March 1 filing deadline remain unaffected by these changes, as detailed in this news release.
